Angelo Bentivegna: I believe the greatest opportunity in our City to combat climate change is to Re-Tool and Re-Think how we deliver some services. Our City has an opportunity to reduce emissions by eliminating low lying fruit.
Vehicle emissions are the # 1 polluter in our city. Lead by example (walk the talk) Do we need Loose leaf pickup? Do we need to clear snow off sidewalks. Loose leaf services account for 1900 km of road travel by trucks, 1900 km from vacuum vehicle, fuel consumption, reduces vehicle life, trips to the dump taking up valuable land space as it bi-degrades? Same concerns with sidewalk snow clearing…850km sidewalk cleared by snow tractors.
Unnecessary releases of emissions after most snowfalls? The financial savings from these services can be redirected to mitigate climate.
