Apply to join our dynamic Board of Directors to help advance our strategic priorities while making a meaningful community and environmental impact. Benefit from professional leadership development, cross-industry networking, and comprehensive governance experience. If you have a collaboration background with knowledge, particularly in legal, accounting, Indigenous relations, youth leadership, or social entrepreneurship, and a passion for making a difference for the environment, we invite you to apply! Fundraising and public speaking experience are also welcomed assets.
Oct 31 update: We are currently interviewing candidates while continuing to invite community members to apply until the end of 2024 ( unless all vacancies are filled before this time).
The Role
BG’s Board of Directors is a collaborative and welcoming team of volunteers, working together to increase climate action throughout the community. Our recently developed strategic plan guides our journey for the next 5 years with a strong focus on collective impact.
The annual time commitment is approximately 100 hours, including Board meetings and committee work. Directors serve for a one-year renewable term, with a preferred 3-year contribution.
As a member of the BG Board, you will take part in the following:
- Help steer BG to help the community to meet the critical challenges and opportunities of the climate and ecological crisis
- Contribute by bringing your unique voice, professional and lived experience to the table
- Help guide the long-term strategic plan, annual budget and performance targets
- Monitor financial and fundraising performance, progress against goals/objectives, and policy compliance including oversight and annual review of the Executive Director
Board members are expected to:
- Attend monthly Board meetings and participate in regular Board activities
- Collaborate on decisions to build the collective impact and financial security and further BG’s mission
- Help to maintain constructive group processes and excellence in governance
- Undertake additional special responsibilities, including serving on Board committees and participating in BG events and activities, including networking and fundraising
BG is committed to creating a workforce and governing board that reflects the diversity of the populations we serve. Studies show that members of underrepresented communities do not apply for postings unless they are 100% “qualified” (Harvard Business Review post, 2014). If this is part of the reason you hesitate to apply, we encourage you to reconsider and give it a chance. Applications from all qualified individuals, including applicants from all cultures and backgrounds, racialized communities, diverse sexual and gender identities, and physical or mental abilities are welcome. We are committed to a selection process and work environment that is inclusive and barrier-free. We also encourage applicants to self-identify if they wish to do so.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Please send an email of interest and your CV to join to BOD@burlingtongreen.org by December 30, 2024.
We are reviewing all applications on an ongoing basis, responding to candidates with details on next steps.
