Interested in learning more about this new program?
Here are the highlights:

  • With thanks to the Government of Ontario and our supporting community partners (The City of Burlington & Mountain Equipment Co-op), BurlingtonGreen established this innovative program and has been  pleased to offer more than 5000 Burlington children the opportunity to participate in fun, interactive, educational workshops with a focus on taking action to help the planet locally.

  • Our curriculum linked workshops are for children ages 4-11 (grades JK-6) to any school/organized group in Burlington at a cost of only a toonie per child!

  • Community group minimum # participants = 25, School groups minumum # participants = 100. We encourage schools to consider booking all their jk-6 grades to participate in the program over 1-2 days so that all children can benefit as well as to minimize group leader travel, C02 use.

  • The 60 minute workshops consist of three steps along with an important follow-up component. Note: we can shorten the program to 40 minutes to accomodate school schedules although the 60 minute program is recommended.

  • What are you required to provide ? All we need is a gathering space (auditorium, classroom, gym, library etc) for our leader to deliver the program. Note: for school bookings we request a single location to set up for the day with classes visiting the location for their scheduled workshops.

  • We provide all workshop supplies including the button making materials and teacher/student challenge handouts as well.

Our workshop 3 steps to GO GREEN include:

Step 1 - Get Inspired while having fun.
  • Step one includes an engaging, interactive presentation led by our program leaders about positive actions that each of us can take to help the environment. (Team challenges / game with props to aid in learning of environmental impacts)

  Step 2 - Make a Pledge Button.

  • Step two builds on the lessons learned and allows time for creativtity as each child makes their own eco-pledge button.

Step 3 - Take Action. Help the Planet.

  • How green are you? Step three is a Go Green Challenge where the children can choose eco-actions they would like to try to commit to do. The Challenge activity can be done individudally or as a group on-line or on  paper. The eco-actions have assigned points depending on the amount of green house gases (GHGs) they produce.

Follow-up: Completed Go Green challenges will result in our team leaders returning to your location to confirm your group's eco-action pledges, deliver challenge certificates and take a group photo to be added to our Green Hall of Fame webpage !
